What is Worship?


Worship Defined:

Worship is the response of a sovereign and loving God who is touched by the reverence and devotion of His creation.

Many people have defined worship by their personal experiences. Worship has been and will continue to be defined by through books, lectures, teaching, and poetry, and songs.

I have read and heard several times that worship is hard to define. Haven't you? However, I must disagree. I think worship is very simple to define.

Worship is really something we cannot avoid. We have been wired to worship. We are made to worship. Have you ever heard the Bob Dylan song: Gotta Serve Somebody"?

We worship everyday. The BIG question is what...or who? Might I simply submit that worship is giving your anticipating and longing to something (or somebody). In others words, what (or who) consumes your thoughts? Where do the affections of your heart lie? What can you NOT wait to do? Who can you NOT wait to be with? The answers to these simple questions are clear indications of who and/or what you worship.
